The collection includes oral history interviews and other material collected by Allan Kent Powell regarding the experiences of Utahns in World War II. A large portion of the collection became part of Powell's book,
Two of the files contained private information. Theda M. Whitehead Judd's file in Box 4, Folder 32, contained her discharge papers, as did William R. Judd, Jr.'s file from Box 5, Folder 1. Discharge papers are classified as private; only the individual discharged can see the document. If the discharge papers are for an individual who is deceased, the individual's descendents can have access if they can prove they are related by offering an obituary, a photo i.d., a death certificate-anything that can prove lineage. The two discharge papers from this collection were placed in a file folder and stored in the vault.
Two other documents are stored with the discharge papers in the vault. William R. Judd, Jr.'s file also contained a Separation Qualification Record that is classified as private. Furthermore, Judd's death certificate for 30 September 1989 is located in the vault. Death certificates less than 50 years old are classified private and are only accessible through the Bureau of Vital Records according to its rules and regulations. Judd's death certificate can be replaced in Box 5, Folder 1 in 2039.
