Known as “Mr. Fish and Game” and “Mr. Conservation” Kay became a Utah Department of Fish and Game employee in the summer of 1927 while teaching school. He earned a degree at Brigham Young University and taught in Rains, Carbon County, and Heber City, Utah. By 1932 he gave up public education for full-time work in the Utah Department of Fish and Game. Two years later, he started the
The collection documents Lee’s commitment to conservation education. During his 35 years (1927-1962) as a staff member of the Utah Department of Fish and Game he collected and photographed most issues related to wildlife and wildlife conservation and management. Included are photographs and movies of people, lakes, mountains, fish hatcheries, fishing, deer, antelope, deer hunting, pheasants, and many scenic views of Utah.
