Eligibility: This program is open to all lending libraries in Utah.
Purpose: The purpose of this program is to encourage resource sharing among Utah’s libraries by providing funds to help defray the costs of providing materials to other libraries.
The Lender Support program consists of two components: 1) The Lender Support Grant and 2) the OCLC Support Grant.
The Lender Support Grant is based upon the percentage of lending to other libraries in the state by the grantee. The following procedure is utilized to determine the amount of the grant: Qualified loans from Utah libraries are totaled for the period (one year). (Qualified Loans are defined as materials loaned or otherwise provided without charge to other Utah libraries not affiliated with for-profit organizations and which provide access to the public, and shall include traditional loans of printed and multimedia materials, and photocopies or otherwise electronically reproduced materials from the lending library’s collection. Loans made from one entity to another, within one parent institution are not qualified loans.) Loans from libraries whose total qualified lending does not exceed one percent of the total will not receive the Lender Support Grant, but may be eligible for the OCLC Support Grant. The library will receive a dollar grant equal to its percentage of qualified lending multiplied by the total funds allocated to the program. (For example, a library with 10% of the qualified lending will receive 10% of the allocated funds.)
The OCLC Support Grant is available only to those libraries who utilize OCLC. Grant funds are allocated to each library on a stepped scale based on the amount of qualified lending:
- up to 1% $2250
- 1% to 5% $3750
- 5% to 10% $5250
- 10% and over $7500
These two components are combined to determine the level of support for each eligible library.
