Lillian Halstead and her twin sister, Marion, were born July 28, 1884 to William Halstead and Jane Wanless. Orphaned by age 16, the girls lived with relatives in Salt Lake City until adulthood, when they became public school teachers in the Wasatch Valley. Neither sisters married, although according to the notations on Photograph 129, Marion was engaged to a Dr. Syndergard "at one time." Both sisters shared a residence until Marion died in 1959. Lillian died in 1977.
The collection includes 315 black and white photographs, including studio portraits and snapshots. It includes images of Lillian and Marion Halstead's family members as well as their students, fellow school teachers, architecture, and landscapes.
The collection's arrangement has not changed since its initial processing in 2006, which may have been in original order. Box 1 includes loose photographs arranged topically into separate folders, while Box 2 contains photograph albums.
