“These outstanding honorees have enriched the lives of Utahns through their leadership, dedication, and support of the arts,” Herbert said. “They’ve made significant contributions to our children’s education and the state’s economy and demonstrate how the arts can inspire us and elevate our lives.”
This year’s recipients of the Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards are:
- Organization: Southern Utah University
- Education: Noemi Veronica Hernandez-Balcazar, District Arts Coordinator for Dance and Visual Arts in Granite School District

The Governor’s Leadership in the Arts Awards recipients were announced at a luncheon during the Mountain West Arts Conference on May 4, 2017, at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City. The awards were presented along with a short video and speech for each winner.
“I know I am a little idealistic, but I believe with all of my heart that the creative process has the ability to change and heal the world,” Dugal said during her speech.
