Utah Arts & Museums will host its annual statewide exhibition “Utah ‘14: Painting & Sculpture” at the Rio Gallery November 21, 2014 – January 9, 2015 with a public reception on Friday, November 21, from 6-9 p.m. where we will reveal the Best in Show, Jurors’ Award winners and Honorable Mentions. Visual arts competitions have been a project of Utah Arts & Museums since 1899, providing juried competitions open to artists across the state of Utah. “This competition and exhibition is an excellent representation of the exciting work Utah artists continue to produce,” says Utah Arts & Museums Director Lynnette Hiskey, “It is highly anticipated each year and we look forward to discovering the diverse themes and concepts that Utah artists choose to explore.”
We were pleased to see entries come from 44 cities and 18 counties across Utah. We received 392 works of art from 224 artists. Of those, 59 works by 59 artists were juried into the exhibition.
Juror Maria Porges stated, “The extraordinary diversity of paintings and sculpture submitted to this year’s Statewide Annual ‘14 is a testament to the independent spirit of Utah’s artists as well as to the continued support that the arts receive in this state. I remain very impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment to the arts that the large number of submissions for this exhibition indicates.”
Admission is free and exhibition catalogs are available at no charge. The Rio Gallery is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
