Counting Things Correctly: Filling out the Statistical Annual Report

Counting Things CorrectlyThis is a shorter, online version of the in-person-sold-out hit presentation.

Whether this is the first time you are submitting the Statistical Annual Report to the State Library or you have done it ten times before, this training is for you.

Library directors and administrators, Board members, government officials, and researchers across the state and around the country routinely use comparisons of basic library output measures to make decisions that impact the library. These comparisons are meaningful only if all libraries reporting their service statistics agree to count things the same way year after year.

To ensure that in Utah “we are all on the same page,” this training will teach you:

  1. The questions in Utah’s Statistical Annual Report AKA Data Element Definitions
  2. The wonderful and super-useful Data Collection Form
  3. How to enter your data in LibPAS & a word about Edit Checks and Annotations

Promoting Your Library in the Community

Promoting Your Library in the Community

You know what a valuable resource your library is – but do the members of your community know?  When we are immersed in the library environment ourselves, it’s easy to forget that there are many in our community who really don’t know what we have to offer. So it’s our job to tell them!

“Promoting Your Library in the Community” will prepare you to do just that. In this 60-minute online session, we’ll brainstorm ways to get the attention of not only our patrons, but also members of our community who may wonder just what goes on at their local libraries.

We’ll discuss avenues for promotion – How can we get the message out? Where should we go to talk about our library? What should we talk about? There is no one who knows better why your library is such an important part of the community – and a passionate employee can promote your library like no one else!

But wait! Does this mean I have to be a public speaker?? Not at all! All you have to do is talk about where you work.

Join us for this session and learn how to help others discover one of your community’s greatest treasures…your library!

How to Handle That Dreaded Discipline Problem

How to Handle That Dreaded Discipline Problem

There’s no doubt about it – for many of us, handling discipline is probably one of the things we dread most about our jobs. Yikes!

The key is to understand the importance of doing what we dread the most – handling it! So often we try to ignore it, hoping it will go away. Does it? Rarely. And what we try to forget is what it’s doing to morale while we’re hoping it will disappear.

In this session, we’ll discuss just what needs to be done when you know you have a discipline problem that needs to be dealt with.  We’ll look at why some of us tend to actually avoid those problems and why some of us tackle them with both feet – and sometimes put our foot in our mouth in the process!

You’ll leave this webinar feeling more confident in your ability to handle discipline. It’s an area most of us would rather forget – but if we supervise others, it’s not likely we’ll get off scot-free. Why not feel in control when handling this necessary part of your job?
